Who You Are
This role is suited for individuals with a minimum of six months experience, either paid or unpaid, in supporting individuals with complex needs, including learning difficulties and challenging health needs. A relevant qualification such as NVQ level 2 is advantageous, but not mandatory if you're willing to undertake training. You possess a keen understanding of healthcare needs associated with profound learning disabilities and are committed to fostering independence and community participation among service users.
What the job involves
The Community Support Worker is responsible for delivering community support services to individuals with profound learning disabilities and complex needs. The role involves providing practical support, enabling access to community facilities, and maintaining individuals' personal networks while building new connections. Responsibilities include implementing care plans, facilitating risk-taking to promote independence, and ensuring personal care that respects client dignity. Maintaining detailed records, supporting medication and meal-taking, and engaging with carers and other professional agencies are crucial aspects of this role. While no budget responsibilities are assigned, you'll assist service users in managing their expenditures and ensure the safe storage of equipment.
